COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PAPER, WRAPPING, WAXED
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description for all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE. This description covers the requirements for waxed wrapping paper used as a separator in the interleaving of postage stamps.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.
2.1 The paper shall be dry-waxed sulphate or sulphite process, bleached, with a basis weight of not less than 32.5 g/m2 (20 lbs) (24 x 36-500) before waxing, tested in accordance with TAPPI method T-410.
2.2 The paper, after waxing, shall have a basis weight of 39.0 g/m2 (24 lbs) (24 x 36-500), plus 3.25 grams (2 lbs), minus 0 grams (lbs), tested in accordance with TAPPI Method T-410.
2.3 The paper shall be furnished in sheet from 226 mm (8.90 inches) wide by 256 mm (10.10 inches) long with a tolerance of minus 0, plus 2 mm (0.09 inches).
2.4 Workmanship. The waxed wrapping paper shall be clean and free from pinholes, tears, cuts, sharp creases, wrinkles, folds, and cleanly cut without nicks or ragged edges and shall be free from any other defects which may adversely affect its utility for the purpose intended.
