COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
TAG, CLOTH, DRY CLEANING AND LAUNDRY MARKING
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description.
This commercial item description covers cloth tags for identification of articles to be laundered or dry cleaned.
Salient characteristics:
The base fabric shall be white, natural, light blue, light green, or yellow in color, as specified. The cloth shall be cotton and comply with the requirements in table I.

Testing shall be as specified in Fed. Test Method Std. 191 for basic fabric weight, breaking strength, shrinkage percentage, and thread count, methods 5041, 5100, 5550, and 5050, respectively.
The issue of the test methods in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.
Unless otherwise specified, the base cloth shall be evenly coated on one side with a clear heat-sealable compound and formed into tags. The coated side of the cloth shall be on the inside of the tag.
When specified, staples fabricated from zinc strip (min. 98 percent zinc) shall be furnished.
Dimensions. The tags shall be 2-1/8 inches by 1/2 inch, 2-1/4 inches, by 5/8 inch, or 5 inches by 3 inches + 1/16 inch for both dimensions, as specified.
Workmanship. The tags shall be clean, with clean cut edges, free from wrinkles, tears, and cuts.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this commercial item description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
