COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BAND, PAPER, CURRENCY
The General Services Administration has authorized
the use of this commercial item description.
This description covers the requirements for kraft paper bands used in the preparation of precounted packets of paper currency.
Salient characteristics.
Basis weight. The paper shall have a minimum basis weight of 18 pounds (24 x 36 – 500) sheets, tested in accordance with TAPPI Test Method T-410. The grain direction shall be parallel to the long dimension for maximum strength.
Colors. The bands shall be available in different colors representing each denomination of currency, as specified.
Legend. The bands shall be imprinted with the legend in ink denoting different denominations of currency, as specified. When specified, the bands may be blank.
Adhesive. Strips of kraft paper used to form the bands shall have a self-sealing pressure-sensitive adhesive applied on both ends. The adhesive shall adhere only to itself.
Dimensions. The currency bands shall have a minimum width of 1-1/4 inches and a minimum length of 7 inches.
Workmanship. The workmanship shall be in conformance with good commercial practice. The paper shall be squarely, evenly, and uniformly cut, and show no evidence of any defect which would affect appearance or serviceability.
Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking. Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
