COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
STRAPPING, NONMETALLIC (POLYOLEFIN, POLYESTER AND CONNECTORS)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Type II of Federal Specification PPP-S-760.
This description covers plastic strapping, polyolefin and polyester, flat and embossed; seals, mechanically installed and tensioned; or buckles.
Salient characteristics.
The principal characteristics of nonmetallic strapping are the material, physical dimensions (width, thickness, and length), tensile breaking strength in pounds, elongation, coil length, joint efficiency, and modulus of elasticity for polyester strapping. All of the principal characteristics shall meet ASTM D 3950, Polyolefin (Type II) or Polyester (Type IV).
All connectors (buckles, seals, or welds) shall have a minimum joint strength of 40 percent of required strap breaking strength contained in ASTM D 3950, table 2 for polyolefin (Type II) or tables 4 and 5 for polyester (Type IV).
Workmanship. Strapping shall be straight, clean, and free of kinks, edge curvature, cracks, and other defects that may affect the serviceability.
Regulatory requirements. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking. Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.

This commercial item description supersedes in part, A-A-687, dated December 17, 1979. A-A-687 is being revised to reflect changes.
