COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PLASTIC SHEET (MEAT WRAPPING)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description in lieu of Federal Specification L-P-370, Class VIII.
This description covers soft; preferentially-oriented shrink film for automatic wrapping of fresh meat.
Salient characteristics:
The film furnished under this description shall be polyvinyl chloride, or polyethylene-EVA. The film shall comply with the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act and Regulations Promulgated Thereunder and the Meat Inspection Regulations.
The film shall be suitable for use in automatic wrapping machinery. It shall be free from objectionable odors and shall be clear non-pigmented and non-fogging.
The film shall be rolled on a fiber core having an inside diameter of 3 inches. The core shall be at least 1/4 inch longer than the specified width of the film.
The minimum average film thickness shall be as specified. A tolerance of plus or minus 20 percent of the specified average shall be allowed on individual readings.
The film length shall be not less than specified. The film shall be as specified, within a tolerance of +1/4-1/8 inch for film 10 inches of less and +1/2-1/8 inch for film over 10 inches in width.
The film shall have a minimum oxygen transmission rate of 750 cc/100sq in 24 hour when tested by ASTM D 1434.
The issue of the ASTM standard in effect on the date of solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with this requirements.
Workmanship. The film shall be free of any imperfections or foreign matter that will detract from its appearance or interfere with its utility.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices and is the same product as the product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Packaging, packing, and marking. Packaging, packing, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
Note. Purchasers shall specify film thickness, roll length and width.
