TIE, STRIP BAG
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers wire reinforced, paper or thermoplastic covered strip ties for closing bags of food products.
Salient characteristics:
Material shall be of the quality normally furnished by the supplier of the strip ties. The strip ties shall consist of either a paper, or thermoplastic cover, with a single – w ire reinforcement. Thermoplastic covers, at the option of the supplier, shall be laminated by the application of an adhesive, or heat sealed, or extruded with a single strand of wire. The wire in the ties shall be a soft, carbon steel wire, 26 gauge (0.018 inch diameter). Thickness of the covers, exclusive of the reinforcing wire, shall be 0.007 inch with a tolerance of + 0.002 inch. The width of the ties shall be not less than 9/64 inch nor more than 13/64 inch. The color of the strip ties shall be as specified in the contract or order. The strip ties shall be oscillate wound on a plastic spool with no kinks or twists in a continuous length of not less than 2500 foot. The center mounting hole on the spool shall be 1-1/16 inch in diameter, plus or minus 1/32 inch.
Workmanship. The strip ties shall be smooth, free of blisters, cuts, or tears and the cover shall not be delaminated, nor shall there be any other defects which might impair their function
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and is the same product sold in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Regulatory requirements. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The items shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed to assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Shipping containers shall be marked as specified in the contract or order.
