COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BOARD, PREPACKING
(PAPERBOARD AND MOLDED PULP TRAYS)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification PPP-T-1999.
This description covers paperboard and molded pulp pre-packing trays and boards used in food distribution. The pre-packing trays shall meet the requirements of the Food and Drug Administration Act Title 21, Part 110, Section 35 and 37.
Salient characteristics:
The trays or braid furnished under this commercial item description shall comply with all provisions of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.
Paperboard and molded pulp pre-packing trays and boards shall be obtainable in two types. Type I trays shall be rectangular in shape with the sides tapering outward from the base to permit nesting, and shall be green or white in color; type II, rectangular flat boards shall have rounded corners. Trays and boards shall be furnished in the length, width, and height specified. Trays shall be water-resistant.
The length and width shall be measured across the centers of the top outer edges of the tray. The height shall be measured vertically from the inside base of the tray to the bottom of a straight edge laid diagonally from top cover to top corner.
A tolerance of + 1/2 inch shall be permitted in length and width, a tolerance of 3/16 inch shall be permitted in the height of the tray.
Workmanship. Trays shall be clean and free from slime spots, grease, oil, dirt, finger marks, holes, tears, surface cracks, blister, or thin spots. Trays shall show no evidence of warpage, distortion, or any other defect which would affect the appearance or serviceability.
Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking. Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
Note: Purchaser should specify the tray type, color, and dimensions.
